Eboria World Nations Cup squad announced

Eboria World Nations Cup squad announced

Tony Jones gave us all something to talk about, when he announced his 23 man squad for the World Nations Cup Finals squad in Portugal and Spain.

There were some surprise inclusions and omissions, in what is a fairly young squad.

No place for veteran keepers, and there was a place for Zack Freeman, as reserve striker- ahead of Bobby Kendrick. Freeman struggled to get a club place this season, but scored four goals in three games for the national side. It must be said to be a gamble. Champions Crowned! Final Round- ESL 2017-18

ESL 2017-18 | Final fixture

Adelphia Arsenal signed off the ESL 2017-18 season as champions, with an entertaining 4-3 win over FC Coratia. Already assured of the title, the Adelphia team looked relaxed and composed, running into a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Jordan Wilcox and Luis Velazquez. They led 4-1, until two late goals from Costanzo and Soares made it closer than it had appeared for most of the game. Coratia will be proud of their first ever season in the ESL. ESL Round 33: Adelphia clinch title with win, all tight at the bottom

ESL Round 33: Adelphia clinch title with win, all tight at the bottom

Eborian Super League | 2017-18 Season | Round 33

Adelphia Arsenal wrapped up the title in the penultimate round, having an unbratable four point lead at the top. Meanwhile, the race to the bottom, or escape out of it heated up. It will be all to play for next Saturday.

In the late Saturday night Kickoff, Adelphia looked unusually nervous in front of the prime time cameras. Fernando Marquez provided a 9th minute lead, with a brilliant header, but Hallas always looked like scoring. Hallas indeed got their equaliser on 49 minutes, when Peter Harvey snuck in at the far post to pop the ball in. Adelphia took back the lead, 26 mins before the end, when a neat 1-2 between Wilcox and Thomas enable the former to set up Luis Velasquez for a low tidy finish. Adelphia had done enough this year! All wrapped up with one game to go, taking in the celebrations in front of their home fans. Continue reading “ESL Round 33: Adelphia clinch title with win, all tight at the bottom”

ESL Round 32: ALFA hold Adelphia, gap at top to four points

ESL Round 32: ALFA hold Adelphia, gap at top to four points

Eborian Super League  | 2017-18 | Round 32

Defending champions ALFA were not willing to perform the guard of honour for Adelphia Arsenal, and it showed in a stubborn and persistive performance at the DIY Depot Arena. Once again Roman Baric struck early to give ALFA the lead, but they failed to hang on to that lead- sitting back and trying to block the borders. Adelphia are masters of the counter-strategy, but also can adapt to circumstances. When nothing else was working, skipper Jerome Mowabé played a nifty one-two with Jordan Wilcox and curled the ball into the far bottom corner of the net.

Elverpool will feel that they dropped points away to Coratia, but to the neutral eye, a draw was a fair result. Emerson Dosa and Jimmy Langford’s goals were cancelled out by fine strikes from Shannon Davis and Hermosillio.

New Jorg United kept up their claim for the title, with a goal apiece from Michael Odonkwa and Aron Mulder. Boorgarde had equalised for Oakland, whilst Peter Aguba missed  a penalty late on. Even so, United looked fairly safe in this outing. With two to play, they can still claim the title.

Amorgan Celtic gave up two late goals, giving Angel an outside hope of claiming the championship. Roberto De Melo cancelled out Eduardo’s 15th of the season, before captain Marcelo Santos gave one more captain’s winner to the cause.

Hallas went one step further in confirming their survival in this vital six-pointer against the Harteford Hammers.  Eddie Decker’s late strike pushed Hallas four points safe.

Other results:
Melborg FC  2-1 LSG
Pottsburgh Athletic 1-0 Olympians
San Andreas Strikers 3-2 Rochester United
Seafax Strikers 1-1 Totterdam SV

The Table:
Adelphia’s lead is cut to four points, though they can still clinch the title next week.
Coratia and San Andreas moved up, whilst Amorgan moved down.

Seafax moved out of the the bottom three and hold their own destiny in their final two games. Rochester will play Harteford in the final round, we await to see if that’s going to be significant.

ESL Round 31: Adelphia hone in on trophy

ESL Round 31: Adelphia hone in on trophy

Eborian Super League 2017-18 | Round 31

Adelphia Arsenal sharpened their grip on the ESL championship with a 4-0 win over hosts Melborg. New jorg United , Elverpool, Angel and ALFA all won too.

A Henry Thomas hat-trick saw Adelphia ease past Melborg and keep their six point lead at the top intact. Luis Velasquez added a final insult with the fourth in the 90th minute. HC Frank Lebeau sang his team’s praises adding ” We have really picked up the pace and intensity as we close in on what we feel is within our grasp. We have been clinical today, in defence and in attack, I am so proud of their hard work and mental toughness” Continue reading “ESL Round 31: Adelphia hone in on trophy”

3CL: Real and Nova to meet for the trophy

CONCAFA Champions League | 2017-18 | Semi-finals

Nova Porto bested New Jorg United in the first semi-final on Tuesday, following a 2-2 draw in New Jorg. United led 1-0 and 2-1, giving them some hope, but they could not stop Nova Porto from levelling and taking a 5-3 aggregate lead, plus an away goals advantage.

Nova shut up shop for the last twenty minutes, as the hosts, needing three more goals to go through failed to trouble the scorekeepers again.

The ‘FSN’  show was too much for the Latanian giants’ defence, scoring two away goals to put the tie beyond any doubt. Juve scored a late consolation, knowing they will have to be a lot stronger in defence next time around.

Real and Nova will meet in the final next month. An all-Maridian affair.

ESL round 30: Elverpool harm NJ’s title hopes as the Arsenal keep winning

ESL round 30: Elverpool harm NJ’s title hopes as the Arsenal keep winning

Eborian Super League | 2017-18 |Round 30

New Jorg United’s second defeat in three rounds leaves them  six points off the pace in the race for the ESL Title. Adelphia maintained their good form, whilst at the other end Pottsburgh, Hallas and Seafax all picked up a point each.

Chris Sulley was shown a straight red card in the ninth minute, for an awful tackle on Emerson Dosa. Despite this, United took the lead before the break, with a Peter Aguba special, breaking past the Elverpool line to slot home.

Elverpool regathered for a second period against 10-men, Defet. nder Chris Tallé headed in from a corner, to equalise.  With twenty minutes left, Axel Heinz took over and produced two fantastic strikes to leave the United fans looking in disbelief at their title hopes. ‘Pool maintained their six point advantage over ALFA for the final 3CL place.

Chris Bartowski gave the visitors the lead, in a hard-fought battle in San Andreas. The Spirit had plenty of their namesake, but couldn’t find the elusive equaliser, Balasz Nagy coming closest. In stoppage time, Luis Velasquez finished off a classic Adelphia counter attack, involving Henry Thomas, Jordan Wilcox and Velasquez.

ALFA’s poor home form continued against struggling Hallas. Roman Baric struck an individualistic goal from nowhere in the 7th minute. ALFA could not produce a second, and it cost them. Hallas levelled on 50 minutes through Emerson Alaves. Paul Leek was sent off with 17 minutes remaining, but the hosts couldn’t produce anything worthy of breaking the deadlock. A point each, no more than either deserved.

Other results:

LSG  0-2  Angel FC
Amorgan Celtic 3-1 FC Coratia
Olympians  4-2  Harteford Hammers
Rochester  1-2  Melborg FC
Oakland Forest 1-1 Seafax Strikers
Pottsburgh  1-1  Totterdam SV

Copa Eboria: Adelphia and Olympians book their places in the final

COPA EBORIA | Semi-Finals | 2017-18

It was a long day for FC Coratia, playing their first ever professional cup semi-final. They were hammered by the Adelphia front-line, led by Henry Thomas and Luis Velasquez, with Wilcox and Marquez in support. 3-0 down at half-time, they restored some pride by pulling one back – courtesy of a Luis Costanzo header. It was not going to be enough, however. Adelphia scored two more, to put the tie beyond any doubt.

Velasquez and Wilcox both scored two each, with the other coming from substitute Lilian Diané.  Adelphia  outpowered their ESL rivals to book another final slot.

League Cup winners Olympians went ahead early in a bad-tempered affair. Aslan Burakgazi found Nacho Vargas in acres of room at the back post for an easy header. Amorgan fought back- literally. There were some awful tackles in the rainy semi-final tie. Olympians lost midfield aces Tiago Alves and Paulo Conceicao within fifteen minutes of eachother, with Amorgan’s offenders only receiving bookings. Amorgan scored either side of half-time, with Ashley Banks setting up Eduardo. Eduardo returned the favour for Banks’ first ever cup goal.

Olympians limped through and battled to the end, equalising with seconds left. A hopeful ball into the box by Williams was deftly controlled by Bret Hardy and finished into the corner. During the extra period, Amorgan hit the woodwork twice, whilst Aslan Burakgazi followed Hardy’s flick on and buried the ball past the helpless Wagner in goal.

This final may be the chance for either team to complete a ‘double’ – Olympians can complete a domestic cup double (Copa Eboria and League Cup), whilst Adelphia Arsenal, if they do win the ESL can win the domestic League and Cup double.

3CL: Quarter-finals conclude leaving a final four

3CL: Quarter-finals conclude leaving a final four

CONCAFA Champions League | 2017-18

The four first leg games of the quarter-finals have been played.

Independiente shocked Nova Porto, with Juan Pablo Sisco scoring twice in each half, for a difficult patch in Nova Porto’s cup run. When Sisco made it 5-1 romp in the 81st minute, there was hope, as one more goal was needed to go through. Césaro snatched a late goal to put things beyond doubt- 6-5 on agg to Nova, who had been going through because of an away goal.

New Jorg United won on the road, 1-0 thanks to a late Aron Mulder goal on the break. Giapoli had threatened, but could not break the United lines. They tried it on with the referee, tyrong to win free kicks and penalties with dives, some convinced, but not all. Goalie Jeff Lemmon saved a penalty from Santi Ramon, the Nerazzuri were unable to score.

Real Mardis never looked in trouble at home to Rosano Centrale. They  won 2-0, thanks to two goals from Carlos Suárez. Mardis marched through 4-1 on aggregate.

Juvenese and Angel had an entertaining game, with Juvenese winning 2-1 to go through 4-2 on agg. With the score tied at 1-1, with Angel needing another goal to take it to extra time, Sandro broke Angel’s hearts with a goal on the counter.

We now have the semi-finals set:
New Jorg United vs Nova Porto, Real Mardis vs Juvenese
