WEFA World Nations Cup 2018

Eboria NT Head Coach Tony Jones has come out in support of his player’s achievements in this years WEFA World Nations Cup. Eboria made it put of a group containing Belgium, Italy and Australia. They beat Costa Rica in the last 16, before going out to Brazil in the Quarter-finals.

“I am so proud of this group of players. this squad worked so hard for each other and it paid off- getting out of a very difficult group. To lose to Brazil? there was no shame in it. ”

He added that he is going to be speaking to the CEFA executive committee soon to talk about his future- stating ” I am still up for this challenge, to take us further, so with their support- I’ll happily try to steer us to China in 2022.”

Eboria 2-3 Belgium

Belgium took top spot by beating an almost full-strength Eborian side in Faro.

Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard had given Eboria plenty to think about in the first half. Lukaku and Hazard scoring good goals from set pieces, whilst Eboria’s goal also came from a corner- a header by Daniel Ayandele.

Lukaku stretched Belgium’s lead in the second period to 3-1, which would give them top spot and the possibility of avoiding the Germans- favourites in Group H.
Eboria chased the game, pulling a goal back, following a goalmouth melee. Henry Thomas wickedly volleyed the ball past Courtois.

In the end, the equaliser never came. It wasn’t a bad time to lose though- results in Group H have meant that Costa Rica take top spot and Germany runners-up. This means Belgium and Germany are paired up and Costa Rica will play Eboria.

Not to take anything away from Costa Rica, but Eboria will much prefer playing against the Central Americans. This loss felt a bit like a win in the end!

Italy 4-0 Australia

It was too little, too late for the Azzuri, as they crashed out with a big banging 4-0 thumping over Australia- who may have already been at the airport. A brace from Immoble, along with Bellotti strikes and a Sainsbury own goal completed the rout for Italy.

Eboria will face Costa Rica and Belgium play Germany in the next round.

Eboria beat Australia 4-0, as Italy & Belgium draw, meaning the Golden Stars go through with one game to play.

Eboria’s win over Australia has given them breathing space before the final game against Belgium. 4-0 did not tell the full story between these two. For much of the game, there was not much between the two sides.

Eboria took the lead in the fourth minute, with Henry Thomas making a clever cross-run between the Aussie defence. Wilcox played him in and he turned a curled the ball into the far corner, past a helpless Mat Ryan.

Australia came back and created some good chances, with Juric and Cahill making Chambers work hard to keep them at bay. Australia were looking for the equaliser before half time, which led to their downfall, as Eboria caught them on the counter. Wilcox fed in Aaron Johnson, who crossed an early ball into Roman Baric. Baric struck with a sweet volley past Ryan, deflating the Australian team.

Eboria regained control of the game as the second period got underway, keeping possesion and slowing the pace down a little. Australia picked up their tempo and threatened the Golden Star’s defence. Once again, this left them open at the back. Baric scored his second, following another good run from Johnson and a great cross.

Five minutes later, a Wilcox corner was only half-cleared by Mat Ryan and his defensive unit. The ball fell invitingly into the path of Mike Mills, who drilled home a rocket from 30 yards. another minor error from the Aussies had resulted in a goal.

With Italy and Belgium drawing 1-1 in the earlier kick-off, Eboria are guaranteed to go through, regardless of the outcome of the final match against the favourites and group seeds- Belgium.

Eboria (4-3-3): Chambers, Cooper, Myers (sub Givens) , Vladic, Ayandele (C), Mills, Harrison, Wilcox (sub Langford), Johnson (sub Carter), Thomas, Baric.

WNC18: Eboria stun Italy in Madrid

Eboria got off to a flying start in Madrid, with a wonderful win against Italy at the Wanda Stadium. Roman Baric caught veteran goalie Buffon off guard in the seventh minute with an early long range strike from outside the area.

Baric doubled the lead before half-time, when Jordan Wilcox and Henry Thomas caught Italy on the break, a quick pass through to Baric caught out Chiellini. The Eborian striker, rubbished during  his time in Serie A, controlled the ball nicely and  slotted past Buffon.

Italy never looked like they were really going to trouble the scorers, surprisingly low on energy for an opening game.

Both teams still have to face Belgium and Australia, with Eboria and Belgium holding the initial advantage.

Eboria line-up:
Chambers, Cooper, Myers, Ayandele (C), Vladic (sub Holland), Mills, Harrison, Wilcox, Johnson (sub Carter), Thomas, Baric.

Eboria World Nations Cup squad announced

Eboria World Nations Cup squad announced

Tony Jones gave us all something to talk about, when he announced his 23 man squad for the World Nations Cup Finals squad in Portugal and Spain.

There were some surprise inclusions and omissions, in what is a fairly young squad.

No place for veteran keepers, and there was a place for Zack Freeman, as reserve striker- ahead of Bobby Kendrick. Freeman struggled to get a club place this season, but scored four goals in three games for the national side. It must be said to be a gamble. Eboria claimed a historic third-place in the IC3, beating the co-hosts Spain in the play-off for third place on penalties. It was 1-1 after normal time, after extra time, so the deadlock was decided via shoot-out. Matt Murphy scored an equaliser in the second half, following Spain leading through Alvaro Morata, again.

After a scoreless extra-time period, in which the hosts were down to ten-men after a reckless Sergio Ramos foul earned him a straight red, Eboria held their nerve in the shoot out. They scored all four penalties, whilst the Spanish missed two. Sol Harrison scored the decisive kick.

Tony Jones’s men have proved themselves worthy of entry to this tournament, with two wins, two draws and 1 defeat in the five games, with a bonus of the penalty shoot out win tonight.

Although all eyes will rightly be on the final between Chile and Portugal, Eboria will have given notice that they are for real, with next summer’s World Nations Cup a priority.

Eboria: Ferguson, Holland, Ayandele (C), Givens, Cooper, Mills, Harrison, Langford (sub Murphy), Wilcox (sub Carter), Marshall (sub Baric), Thomas.

Eboria’s run in the IC3 came to an end in Barcelona tonight. Chile, led by Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal were just too strong for Eboria on the night. Eboria had been without playmaker Matt Murphy and lost Buckhalter and Myers to injuries before half-time.  Continue reading “IC3: Chile too hot for Eboria in Semi-final”
