ALFA Claim ESL Championship in Dramatic Climax to Season

ESL Round up | Final Round (34)

Who would win the Championship, who would be relegated… all decided in the only round of matches to be played at the same time… the ESL Big Finish!

ALFA, knowing they had to better Adelphia’s result and hope went into this game a little nervously. Zeca, playing in his last game, after ten seasons at the club tried to set the tempo- but there were nervous touches abound. Goalless at half-time, there was a sense of panic at the ALFA Arena. Just after the restart, though, Zeca threaded a pass through to Danny Marshall who beat LSG ‘keeper Zuniga at the near post. ALFA held onto their lead to the final whistle, where they all just waited for news from the NECOM.

Another nervous affair, with Elverpool hosting Adelphia at the NECOM Stadium. Both teams went close in the first half, but both goalkeepers stood firm. When the lines were broken, Cooper cleared Johnson’s shot off the line. With the game still deadlocked and about fifteen minutes to go, the Captain stepped up. Jerome Mowabé played a one-two with Jordan Wilcox before letting rip a rasping shot into the top corner- Captain Fantastic had done it! Unfortunately for the visitors, they temporarily switched off and shortly afterwards they conceded  the goal that cost them the title. Following a stern challenge from Axel Heinz on Mowabé, the visitors expected the whistle to blow- but it didn’t. Klein slid the ball into Eriksen who easily beat Alberto.  they tried to mount one last assault on the Elverpool goal, but could not beat Button.

Pottsburgh were left nervously awaiting the result of Carlton’s game after a terrible performance to close out the season. Oakland dominated possession and shots on goal, with Muller grabbing two goals, Escalalda and Boogarde rounded off the scoring.

the defending champions ended their defence with a home win that relegated Carlton. The end of a very disappointing season, Olympians will be looking to rebuild. Martijn Bockel set up Nelinho for the only goal of the game. Will that be both players last games? We will have to wait and see if they join Hernandinho out the door.

Angel ended all hope of claiming the title by shooting blanks against a well-organised and patient Hammers team. They came close twice; van der Kamp hitting the bar from a free kick, Giovanni heading wide from a Suárez cross. Harteford remained resolute.

New Jorg claimed third place, with a spirited outing against Amorgan. The hosts maybe had one eye on next weeks cup final. United scored either side of half time, with Michael Ameche scoring on his swansong, taking his tally up to 15. Jake Carter brilliantly set up Kevin Kelly for his tenth of the season, from a cut back.

Other results:

Hallas Hostpurs 2-2 San Andreas Spirit
Hillsborough 2-1 Victoria AC
Seafax Strikers 1-1 Melborg

So, ALFA won the 2016-17 ESL, with Adelphia, New Jorg and Angel claiming place in the (CONCAFA) Champions League next season. At the bottom, Victoria and Hillsborough were joined by Carlton in the relegation end of the table.

  1. Hi there! This blog post couldn’t be written any better! Going through this post reminds me of my previous roommate! He constantly kept talking about this. I will send this information to him. Fairly certain he’ll have a good read. Thank you for sharing!
