ESL Roundup | Round 33
What a weekend! securing that it all goes down to the wire next Sunday, 14th May 2017. There were late goals in five of the games this weekend- giving Angel a hope for the title and threw Carlton and Pottsburgh a lifeline.
MELBORG 0-1 ADELPHIA ARSENAL
Adelphia Arsenal kept their spot at the top (on goal difference) with a secure and assured performance at Highbridge. Melborg never really looked threatening in the first half, whilst the visitors frustratingly hit the post and bar before the break. As the game wore on, tension was mounting for the away side. Enter, Henry Thomas. Thomas’ control of a expertly threaded pass from Chris Bartowski gave him the extra second he needed to slot the ball into the corner, past Lemmon.
SAN ANDREAS SPIRIT 1-3 ALFA
ALFA kept up with Adelphia with a great performance in San Andreas. Dan Berkowitz’s men bullied their way past a spirited San Andreas side. Goals from Zeca, Alameida and Baric had ALFA three up, before a late consolation goal from Harris. ALFA will be at full strength and at home next weekend, for the deciding round.
OLYMPIANS 1-2 ANGEL
A very late strike, deep into stoppage time kept Angels feint hopes of a title alive. Carlos Suárez had opened the scoring early, before they were pegged back. Hernandinho, playing in his penultimate game for Olympians hooked up with Nelinho one last time. With perhaps seconds remaining, wing-back Gilberto Carlos knocked the ball into the box, it was only partially cleared by Buckhalter. The loose ball was contested by Santos and Scott and it fell invitingly to Giovanni, who bagged his 21st league goal of the season.
ELVERPOOL 3-1 NEW JORG UNITED
New Jorg United effectively bowed out of the championship race with a limp performance away at the NECOM Stadium. A rare start for Axel Heinz profited with a goal and an assist. The hosts were not in a charitable mood and scored two early goals – Aaron Johnson and Klein. New Jorg struggled to get the passes flowing. they’ve really missed the passing of Kowalski in midfield. Micheal Ameche missed a second half penalty, but made amends ten minutes before time. With New Jorg chasing an equaliser, they got caught with Heinz and Johnson trading passes, with Johnson claiming his 22nd league goal of the season. Elverpool will now be certain to finish 5th.
